For the month of August, our Community Initiative of the Month is the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital!
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Boniface Hospital cares for over 600 sick or premature babies each year. The NICU is a Family Integrated Care Unit (FiCare) which means they encourage Parents and Guardians to be in the unit caring for their baby as much as they can. St. Boniface Hospital serves Manitobans who face critical and complex conditions, with a renowned spirit of compassionate care and courageous innovation. They offer global-calibre medical expertise in a sanctuary of compassion, where today’s discoveries are tomorrow’s cures. Their daily actions are guided by compassion, agility, advocacy, discovery and passion.
Donations from our Community Initiative of the Month will go towards the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital so their entire team can continue to provide this extremely necessary, specialized equipment and care for families with sick or premature babies. Donations help the NICU continue to offer a range of small and large items that families need like cozy“kangaroo-pouch”shirts worn to have daily skin-to-skin care, comfortable“zero gravity”chairs parents in for cuddling and feedings, preemie sleepers, knitted hats and soft blankets, state-of-the-art “giraffe” omni-beds that protect preemies from loud noises that can harm them, warming cribs that regulate babies' body temperature, blue light therapy blankets to treat jaundice in newborns, and more.
A portion of sales from all cupcakes at Academy, The Forks, Island Lakes and over SkipTheDishes will be donated throughout the month of August. To learn more about St. Boniface Hospital and the NICU, click here.
