Our January Community Initiative of the Month is Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba(IRCOM).
IRCOM is a one of a kind place; a home to hundreds of immigrants and refugees from across the globe, who are secured with long-term, affordable, and safe housing, together with holistic, wrap around programs and services for parents and children alike. IRCOM is the “receiving family” for those who have no one in Canada to receive them; a home where each person finds belonging and dignity, all of which is essential so they can meaningful integrate into their new community.
IRCOM's vision is a community of belonging. Their mission is to empower newcomer families to integrate into the wider community through affordable transitional housing, programs, and services. Some of their programs include After School Programs, Child Care Programs, Newcomer Literacy intuitive and more. IRCOM has been working within Winnipeg for many years and is celebrating their 30th Anniversary this June.
Throughout the month of January, a portion of cupcake sales will be donated to IRCOM. Purchase your cupcakes at our shops at Academy, Island Lakes or The Forks or through SkipTheDishes and know you're helping those new to Winnipeg feel welcome, safe and respected.
