For August 2023, JRC is Giving Back to Oshki-Giizhig Inc.!
Oshki-Giizhig is an indigenous based, non-profit initiative developing supports in the community. They will walk beside, advocate and support people affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and/or other disorders. Strengthened by cultural practices and traditional teachings, their support assists in restoring balance to individuals and the community affected by trauma and violence.
Services offered by Oshki-Giizhig are referral based and are specifically developed to accommodate participants and to provide support depending on their circumstances. Services are holistic and seek to enhance physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual wellness. From Walking Stick Community Support Program, which offers assistance to adults affected with FASD and other disorders who also face multiple health and safety challenges, to Wiigiwaam Housing Supports Program which supports healthy living for the participants all of their houses are supported in maintaining sobriety. Their programs also include Beaver Lodge Day Services, which is a program that incorporates teachings based on Oshki-Giizhig general model of care which is based on the traditional medicine wheel, and seeks to address needs of all areas of wellbeing; intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
Overall, their services help their participants maintain healthy relationships, secure safe housing, acquire income and assist with finances, navigate and understand the justice system, and assist with basic and medical needs while also supporting reconciliation when conflict arises.
Throughout the month of August, purchase cupcakes in-store at Academy, Island Lakes or The Forks, through SkipTheDishes, or online, and 5% of sales will be donated to Oshki-Giizhig Inc.!
