JRC Gives Back - June 2022

For June 2022, JRC is Giving Back to Rainbow Resource Centre!

Rainbow Resource Centre offers support to the 2SLGBTQ+ community in the form of counselling, education, and programming for individuals ranging from children through to 55+. They also support families, friends, and employers of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
Rainbow Resource Centre has a vibrant history in Winnipeg from their roots as a student group at the University of Manitoba in the early 1970s. The group went on to become a leader and an important resource for the gay and lesbian community, providing community services, education, outreach, and political awareness and activism. In 1988, the group became Winnipeg Gay/Lesbian Resource Centre, establishing itself as an independent organization in a new location at Confusion Corner. The Centre evolved once more in 1999, changing its name to Rainbow Resource Centre. In 2008, Rainbow Resource Centre relocated to its current home at 170 Scott Street, just a few blocks from its old location, and has now been in the Osborne Village area for almost 30 years. It is the longest continuously running 2SLGBTQ+ resource centre in Canada.
Rainbow Resource Centre's Education Program provides 2SLGBTQ+ and ally education, awareness, and outreach that assists healthcare providers, educators, students, social service, and commercial service providers.

The Youth Program offers 2SLGBTQ+ youth a safe, fun place to learn new skills, create projects, and celebrate identities. Rainbow Resource Centre also has a volunteer program, community library, and coordinates the community-led groups and committees that meet at Rainbow Resource Centre. Camp Aurora is also Manitoba's only summer camp experience for 2SLGBTQ+ youth!

Throughout the month of June, purchase cupcakes in-store at Academy, Island Lakes or The Forks, or through SkipTheDishes, and 5% of sales will be donated to Rainbow Resource Centre!
