What are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, fully coated in scrumptious cinnamon and sugary goodness, and designed for dipping? The answer: our Churro French Toast Sticks! Kids love eating these with their hands and dunking them into Dulce de Leche Dipping Sauce! Just be sure you levae time to make the dipping sauce the day before you plan to serve the dish (see Baker's Tip). If you're hosting breakfast or brunch, put the sticks into sleeves and serve the dipping sauce in ramekins.

🍞 Churro French Toast Sticks (makes 30 dipping sticks) 🍞

Dulce de Leche Dipping Sauce:
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk, label removed
1/4 cup whipping (35%) cream

Churro French Toast Sticks:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon cinnamon, divided
1 loaf thick-cut brioche bread (1-inch slices)
5 eggs
1 1/2 cups whole (3.25%) milk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Method:

Dulce De Leche Dipping Sauce:

  1. Place the unopened can of sweetened condensed milk upright in a large saucepan. Cover it completely with water, making sure the water level is at least 2 inches above the can. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the water to a boil. Boil for 3 hours, checking the water level every 30 minutes and adding more water as needed to keep the can completely submerged. Only make this when you have the time to watch it carefully. If the can does not remain submerged, you risk it exploding, which can be very dangerous. Using a pair of tongs, remove the hot can from the saucepan and let cool at room temperature overnight, or at least 8 hours.

Churro French Toast Sticks:

  1. In a small bowl, mix the sugar and 2 tablespoons of the cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Discarding the ends of the bread, cut each slice of brioche into 4 sticks. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and the remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon until combined.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. One stick at a time, dip the brioche into the egg mixture to coat. Cooking in batches, arrange the sticks in an even later in the skillet. Cook on all 4 sides until golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Immediately brush each side with melted butter and toss in the reserved cinnamon sugar. Place the finished sticks on a clean plate. Repeat, until all the bread sticks have been cooked and tossed in cinnamon sugar.

Assembly:

  1. Open the can of dulce de leche and pour it into a small bowl. Add the whipping cream and whisk the Dipping Sauce until smooth. Divide the Dipping Sauce evenly between ramekins to match the number of guests you will be serving. Arrange 6 Churro French Toast Sticks on a plate. Serve immediately with a side of Dulce De Leche Dipping Sauce.
