If you've ever stood in front of a cake menu wondering “Wait… how many people does this actually feed?”, you’re in very good company.
Cake serving sizes are one of the most common planning questions we get at Jenna Rae Cakes, especially for birthdays, weddings, showers, and big celebrations where you want to make sure there’s just enough cake for everyone (and even a little extra for seconds… or to enjoy the next day for breakfast).
The truth is, cake serving sizes aren’t just about diameter. They’re about layers, slice style, celebration type, and how generously you plan to cut. So let’s walk through our cake sizes and what they realistically mean for your event.
4-inch Mini Cakes – Serves 4–6
Our 4-inch mini cakes are small but mighty. They’re designed for intimate celebrations, small gatherings, or moments where you want a beautiful cake without committing to leftovers for days. Think birthdays for a couple of friends, a cozy family dessert, or even a personal celebration that deserves something extra special.
These cakes typically serve 4–6 people depending on how slices are cut. You’ll get a few modest celebration slices or slightly smaller, dessert-style portions if you’re serving alongside other treats.
They’re also a favourite for “just because” moments when you want the joy of cake without needing an occasion at all

6-inch Cakes – Serves 10–12
Our 6-inch cakes are our most popular size!
This size works beautifully for birthdays, small dinner parties, office celebrations, or family gatherings where cake is the main dessert but the guest list is still fairly intimate.
A 6-inch cake typically serves 10–12 people, depending on slice size. Cutting into classic wedges, you can expect generous celebration slices or slightly smaller portions if there are other desserts on the table. It’s the perfect balance between “not too big” and “definitely enough cake.”

8-inch Cakes – Serves 20–24
The 8-inch cake is where things start to feel like a full celebration moment.
This size is ideal for larger birthday parties, showers, milestone events, and gatherings where cake is a centrepiece dessert. It has enough presence to feel special while still being practical for medium-sized groups.
An 8-inch cake generally serves 20–24 people. If sliced traditionally, you’ll get a good number of celebration portions that feel generous without running short. It’s a go-to choice when you want a cake that feels impressive but still manageable.

2-Tier Cakes – Serves 30+
Our 2-tier cakes are designed for big celebrations that call for something a little more dramatic.
Whether it’s a milestone birthday, engagement party, baby shower, or even a small wedding cake, this size brings both visual impact and plenty of servings.
A 2-tier cake typically serves 30+ people, depending on how it’s cut. It’s a great option when you want a statement cake that still comfortably feeds a larger group. This is also where cake becomes part of the décor. Two tiers instantly elevate the look of any celebration table.
We recommend cutting 2-tier cakes ‘wedding slice’ style. Look at the top surface of your cake. Using a long, sharp knife, make a cut 1” in from the edge from the top to the bottom of your cake. Cut this 1” wide strip of cake into 1” or 2” slices. Repeat the process, making a 1” wide cut from the top to bottom of your cake, then cut the strip of cake into multiple smaller pieces. This style of cutting allows one cake to serve more people than cutting into wedges.

Sheet Cake – ~48+ Servings
When you need to feed a crowd, our sheet cake is your best friend.
Sheet cakes are designed for larger gatherings, corporate events, school celebrations, or any moment where you need consistent, easy-to-serve portions without sacrificing flavour or design.
A sheet cake typically serves approximately 48+ people, depending on slice size. It’s practical, efficient, and still carries all the Jenna Rae Cakes detail and care you’d expect from a celebration cake.

How to Choose the Right Cake Size
If you’re not sure which size to choose, here are a few simple things to consider:
-
Are there other desserts being served? If yes, you may need fewer servings.
-
Do you want leftovers? Having cake to enjoy for a day or two after the celebration is always a good idea.
-
Is it a kids’ party or adult celebration? Slice sizes tend to vary with slices for kids often being smaller than what adults may prefer.
When in doubt, our serving sizes listed are quite accurate and we’ve had countless customers share how impressed they were with how our cakes served them perfectly!

A Note on Serving Sizes
All serving estimates are based on standard celebration slices. Actual servings can vary depending on how the cake is cut and the style of event.
Weddings and formal events often use smaller, more uniform slices, which can increase the number of servings. Casual parties tend to lean toward more generous cuts.
